HOUSTON — H-E-B removed 54 products from its Texas stores after a supplier voluntarily recalled foods containing jalapeño peppers over potential salmonella contamination, the grocery chain said Friday.
NatureBest Precut & Produce LLC announced the recall Aug. 8 for products containing jalapeños supplied by Coast Citrus Distributors. The recalled products were distributed to retail customers in Texas and Louisiana from July 3 through Aug. 5.
H-E-B said it removed all affected products from its shelves.
The recalled items include H-E-B and NatureBest products such as pico de gallo, jalapeño-stuffed mushrooms and diced jalapeños. The recall also covers some products prepared in H-E-B stores, including guacamole and assorted ceviches.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are investigating a multistate outbreak of Salmonella Javiana infections linked to jalapeño peppers from Sinaloa, Mexico, distributed through Coast Citrus Distributors.
NatureBest has stopped distributing the affected products and is working with its supplier and regulatory authorities, H-E-B said.
H-E-B said products currently sold in its stores are safe and advised customers who purchased the recalled items not to eat them.
The CDC reported 345 salmonella cases across the United States in 2026 as of Friday. Colorado and Minnesota have reported the highest numbers of cases.
Salmonella symptoms typically develop 12 to 72 hours after exposure and can include diarrhea, fever and abdominal cramps. Young children, older adults and people with weakened immune systems face a higher risk of severe illness.
