MANILA, Philippines — Actress Gretchen Barretto submitted her counter-affidavit on Wednesday during a preliminary investigation into the case of several missing “sabungeros,” or cockfighting enthusiasts, at the Department of Justice (DOJ) in Manila.

Barretto arrived at the DOJ with her legal team to formally respond to allegations connected to the high-profile case. Her counter-affidavit forms part of the legal proceedings aimed at determining the circumstances behind the disappearance of multiple individuals who were last seen attending cockfighting events.

Authorities have linked the investigation to wider concerns surrounding illegal gambling operations in the country.

The DOJ has been working closely with law enforcement agencies in pursuing leads and gathering evidence. No timeline has been provided for when the investigation may conclude.

Barretto’s legal counsel stated that she continues to cooperate fully with the process. Officials said the submission of her counter-affidavit marks a significant development in the ongoing inquiry.

The public and concerned families await further updates as authorities prioritize resolving the case.
