HOUSTON — Alumni of the University of the Philippines across North America convened in Houston, Texas on October 17–18, 2025 for the UP Alumni Association in America’s (UPAAA) 23rd Biennial Grand Reunion and Convention.
The two-day event, held at the Westin Galleria Houston, carried the theme “Committing to Honor, Excellence, Service.”
UPAAA National President Winston C. Umali, MD previously issued a call for participation, framing the convention as a convergence of fellowship, leadership engagement and scholarship fundraising for UPAAA’s continuing programs. Pearl G. Ontalan, chair of the GRC Committee, led the organizing team.

The convention featured plenary sessions, panel discussions, sponsor exhibits, alumni recognition segments, a parade of jubilarians and evening socials — including a Texas-themed jubilarian night on October 17 and a formal gala on October 18. Registration packages included meals and full access to sessions. Organizers earlier advised that walk-ins would incur an additional fee and cancellations would no longer be accepted, though transfers to a substitute attendee were allowed.

The gathering drew both UP alumni and non-alumni supporters from the United States, Canada, the Philippines and other countries. The high turnout reflected sustained interest in alumni convenings following previous conventions in Chicago, New Jersey and California.
UPAAA, a U.S.-registered nonprofit, continues to provide scholarships, networking opportunities and civic initiatives through its alliance of UP alumni chapters across America.
