Texas Governor Greg Abbott directed the Texas Division of Emergency Management to activate emergency response resources ahead of an expected severe weather system.
The activation will cover a wide portion of the state starting Thursday night and continuing through the weekend.
Abbott said the state stands ready to support local officials as conditions develop. Residents are urged to monitor weather updates, check road conditions, prepare emergency plans, and follow instructions from state and local authorities.
The National Weather Service forecast warns of severe thunderstorms that could produce large hail, damaging winds, isolated tornadoes, and heavy rain capable of triggering flash floods.
The threat is expected to begin in West Texas, the Panhandle, South Plains, and North Texas, before shifting south and east over the weekend. Regions listed in the risk area include the Concho Valley, Permian Basin, Big Country, Hill Country, Piney Woods, Brazos Valley, Golden Triangle, Deep East Texas, and communities in South, Central, and Southeast Texas.
Abbott stressed the importance of public readiness as the system approaches. State officials continue to coordinate with multiple agencies to protect residents and reduce potential damage as the weather system moves across Texas. Further updates are expected as conditions evolve.
