SAN ANTONIO, Texas– Governor Greg Abbott on Monday signed House Bill 150, formally establishing the Texas Cyber Command—a new state-level initiative focused on defending against cyber threats.

The command will be based in San Antonio, with its headquarters housed at the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA). It is expected to be fully operational by 2027.

During a ceremony in San Antonio, Abbott emphasized the need for strengthened digital defenses as cyberattacks grow more frequent and complex.

Authored by State Representative Giovanni Capriglione and Senator Kelly Hancock, the legislation creates a centralized agency tasked with protecting critical infrastructure and state systems from cyber intrusions.

UTSA, home to the recently opened National Security Collaboration Center and School of Data Science, will host the command in its $91.8 million downtown facility.

With House Bill 150 now law, the state is moving forward with plans to staff and equip the Texas Cyber Command ahead of its full launch in two years.
