SINGAPORE — The Gilas Pilipinas women’s 3×3 basketball team will compete in the FIBA 3×3 World Cup Qualifier this weekend after winning a silver medal at the FIBA 3×3 Asia Cup.
The team is composed of Afril Bernardino, Mikka Cacho, Kacey dela Rosa, and Tantoy Ferrer.
The Philippines will compete in the pool stage against host Singapore and Brazil. The team must finish in the top two of its group to advance to the semifinals.
The other group in the tournament includes Hungary, Lithuania, and Egypt.
The Philippine squad aims to qualify for the FIBA 3×3 World Cup, where the country last competed in the women’s division in 2018. Teams must finish in the top three overall to secure a berth in the tournament.
Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas president Ricky Vargas said the team’s performance at the Asia Cup marked a significant achievement for the program.
The men’s 3×3 team, composed of Jerrick Ahanmisi, Sean Alter, Chris Koon, and Ralph Cu, reached the quarterfinals in the Asia Cup before losing to South Korea.
SBP program director Ryan Gregorio described the recent tournaments as a key development step for the national 3×3 program, citing participation from professional and collegiate players.
