Filipino basketball players Kai Sotto and AJ Edu are making notable contributions in the 2024-25 B.League season, further solidifying their roles as key figures in the Philippine national team, Gilas Pilipinas.

Both players have showcased their skills in Japan’s premier basketball league, ranking among the leaders in various statistical categories.

Sotto, who plays for the Koshigaya Alphas, has been a standout with his impressive rebounding abilities. He currently ranks second in the league with an average of 10.0 rebounds per game, closely trailing Thomas Welsh of Levanga Hokkaido, who leads with 12.9 rebounds per game.

In addition to his rebounding, Sotto is averaging 14.5 points per game, contributing significantly to his team’s offense. His ability to block shots also makes him a dominant force on both ends of the floor.

Meanwhile, AJ Edu, who represents Nagasaki Velca, has earned recognition for his versatility. Standing at 6 feet 10 inches, Edu is a strong defensive player, averaging 1.2 blocks per game.

His rebounding skills, combined with his defensive abilities, make him a key player for his team. Edu’s agility and game awareness have established him as a reliable defender, often tasked with guarding opponents’ top players.

Both Sotto and Edu are considered rising stars in Philippine basketball. Their performances in the highly competitive B.League provide valuable experience that will aid in their development and strengthen the national team.

Sotto’s transition to Japan follows his previous stints in Australia and the United States, bringing a wealth of experience that has made him a fan favorite among Koshigaya Alphas supporters.

Edu, on the other hand, has overcome early career injuries to establish himself as a key contributor for Nagasaki Velca, earning respect for his dedication and hard work.

Their success in the B.League has also sparked growing interest in Filipino basketball talent internationally.

The presence of both players in Japan has captured the attention of Filipino basketball fans, increasing viewership and support for the league.

As they continue to develop, Sotto and Edu’s performances will play a crucial role in the Philippines’ basketball aspirations on the global stage.
