MIAMI — Former world champion boxer Gervonta Davis was arrested Wednesday in Miami after his ex-partner reported him for physical assault, kidnapping, and causing emotional distress.

The Miami Police Department said on social media that Davis, 31, was apprehended in a joint operation between local and federal authorities.

According to a complaint filed by Courtney Rossel, Davis went to the striptease club where she worked on October 27, forced her outside, and dragged her to the carpark. Rossel alleged that Davis grabbed her by the neck, pushed her, and struck her on the back of the head.

Davis, nicknamed “Tank” for his knockout power, was scheduled to fight YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul in Miami in November. However, the bout was canceled following the assault allegations. Paul instead faced former heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua in December, losing by knockout in the sixth round.

Davis has held world titles in the super featherweight, lightweight, and super lightweight divisions. He remains unbeaten with 30 victories, including 28 by knockout, and one draw.

This is not the first time Davis has faced accusations of assault or domestic violence. In July, he was arrested on battery and domestic violence charges after allegedly assaulting the mother of his two children, but the charges were later dropped when the woman declined to prosecute.

Additionally, Davis served 44 days in jail in 2023 after pleading guilty to a hit-and-run crash three years earlier that injured four people.
