The Texas Education Agency announced its plan to assume control of the Fort Worth Independent School District due to the district’s overall performance.

The move places the roles of Superintendent Karen Molinar and current board members under review, with positions subject to reapplication or replacement through a state-appointed board of managers.

Local officials, parents and former students expressed mixed reactions following the announcement. Some voiced disappointment, saying the district had shown gains in state ratings, while others viewed the intervention as a potential step toward improvement.

Fort Worth Mayor Mattie Parker urged calm and support for teachers and students while the transition proceeds.

The Fort Worth ISD Board of Trustees released a statement opposing the takeover, arguing that elected local leadership is better suited to sustain reform efforts.

The Texas Education Agency stated the application process for the superintendent role and board of managers will be open to the public. Further announcements are expected as the transition plan advances.
