Ex-NBA big man thinks Spurs’ Wembanyama will be an NBA great, but what’s the key?

Four-time NBA All-Star DeMarcus Cousins believes that Victor Wembanyama, a 7-foot-2-inch basketball phenom from France has limitless potential and is one of the few players capable of living up to the high expectations set by fans and experts.

Wembanyama is rapidly becoming one of the most talked-about prospects in the NBA.

Former NBA players and analysts have been quick to praise Wembanyama’s potential. 

However, Cousins also notes that talent alone is not enough. Success in the NBA requires dedication, hard work, and the ability to adapt to the league’s competitive environment.

Known for his extraordinary combination of height and skill, Wembanyama’s abilities on the court have drawn comparisons to some of the game’s greatest players, sparking speculation about the heights he could reach in the NBA.

Wembanyama’s journey began in France, where his towering presence and impressive skills quickly set him apart. His defensive abilities are particularly remarkable, with an exceptional knack for shot-blocking and controlling the paint.

As one of the best shot-blocking prospects to enter the NBA in recent years, he is already seen as a game-changer on defense.

Offensively, Wembanyama’s versatility makes him a threat in multiple areas. Not only can he dominate around the rim, but he also has the ability to shoot from long range, stretching the floor and creating opportunities for his teammates.

While his passing game is still developing, he shows promise as a potential playmaker, able to contribute as both a drop big and a lob threat in offensive schemes.

Wembanyama’s playmaking and decision-making remain areas for growth. Currently averaging 3.1 assists per game with 3.4 turnovers, he will need to refine his ball-handling and decision-making under pressure.

As he gains more experience, his ability to orchestrate plays and involve teammates effectively is expected to improve.

Currently playing for the San Antonio Spurs, a team known for developing young talent, Wembanyama is in an ideal environment to nurture his skills. The Spurs’ coaching staff is focused on improving his basketball IQ and preparing him for the challenges of a full NBA season.
