HOUSTON, Texas — Former Houston Astros closer Billy Wagner has been elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame, joining CC Sabathia and Ichiro Suzuki in the 2025 class.

Wagner’s election acknowledges his outstanding career and contributions to Major League Baseball.

Wagner, known for his fastballs and consistency on the mound, played for several teams during his career, including the Philadelphia Phillies, New York Mets, Boston Red Sox, and Atlanta Braves.

His election honors his impact on Major League Baseball (MLB) over his 16-year career, which spanned from 1995 to 2010.

Wagner is ranked sixth in MLB history with 422 career saves and holds a career ERA of 2.31, with 1,196 strikeouts in 903 innings.

Meanwhile, Suzuki, the first Japanese player elected to the Hall of Fame, is recognized for his career achievements, including over 3,000 hits, a .311 batting average, and ten All-Star selections. His influence on the game has extended globally, especially in Japan.

CC Sabathia, known for his power pitching and durability, earned 251 career wins, a Cy Young Award in 2007, and a World Series title with the New York Yankees in 2009. His leadership and ability to perform under pressure further highlight his legacy in baseball.

The Hall of Fame election is based on votes from the Baseball Writers’ Association of America (BBWAA), with candidates needing at least 75% of the vote for induction.

Their induction will be celebrated in the upcoming Hall of Fame ceremony, where their careers and legacies will be honored.
