HOLLYWOOD — The first official trailer for the animated feature Forgotten Island has dropped, offering fans a peek at a fantasy adventure inspired by Filipino mythology. The film stars Liza Soberano as Raissa and H.E.R. as Jo.
The trailer opens in the 1990s with Raissa and Jo meeting outside their school principal’s office, forming a friendship sealed with a bracelet. Their bond grows over the years until a magical portal—emerging from the sun in the Philippine flag—transports them to the perilous Forgotten Island. “The longer you are here, the more memories you’ll forget,” Jo warns, as the girls face challenges trying to return home, set to Simple Minds’ “Don’t You Forget About Me.”
The montage includes heartfelt moments and comedic relief, including Jo comforting a panicking Raissa by making her sing Baha Men’s “Who Let the Dogs Out.”
Produced by DreamWorks Animation, the film is slated for theatrical release on September 25. The voice cast also features Lea Salonga, Manny Jacinto, Dave Franco, Jenny Slate, Dolly de Leon, and Jo Koy.
The film is directed by Joel Crawford alongside Filipino-American filmmaker Januel Mercado, marking Mercado’s feature directorial debut.
