Filipino students shine at Copernicus Olympiad in Houston

Six Filipino students were honored for their outstanding performances at the Copernicus Olympiad’s Global Round for Natural Science, Physics, and Astronomy, held in Houston from January 5 to 10, 2025. The students, representing various schools across the Philippines, were celebrated by Consul General Gunther Sales, Vice Consul Tanya Gaurano, and Cultural Officer Brenda Orcino-Panganiban.

Among the awardees were:

  • Richmarth Duke Bad-ang (17) from the University of Immaculate Conception in Davao City, who earned a Bronze Medal in the Natural Science Category 5.
  • Iwen Sabio Manabo (17) from the School of Saint Anthony in Quezon City, who secured a Silver Medal in the Natural Science Category 5.
  • John Hermes Mariñas (10) from Maria Loreto Integrated School in Oriental Mindoro, who won a Gold Medal in Natural Science and placed 2nd in the Absolute Winner Category 2.
  • Rijan Felminia Acevedo (16) from the Philippine Science High School in Zamboanga, who also claimed a Gold Medal in Natural Science and 2nd place in the Absolute Winner Category 4.
  • Jaymee Kristen Concha (14) from the Philippine Science High School in Zamboanga, who earned a Bronze Medal in Natural Science Category 4.
  • Marquis Xavier Zamuco (18) from Saint Louis University in Baguio, who took home a Bronze Medal in the Physics and Astronomy Category 3.

The students’ achievements highlight the exceptional talent and dedication of Filipino youth in the fields of science and technology.
