MANILA, Philippines — Sergio Veloso has confirmed that he is leaving his position as head coach of Ateneo Blue Eagles after the team concluded its campaign in UAAP Season 88 on Wednesday.
Veloso said his departure comes after his contract with Ateneo ended. He also said he will leave the Philippines following his exit from the program.
Ateneo finished Season 88 with a 2–12 record and missed the Final Four for a third consecutive season under Veloso. Both of its wins came against the University of the East.
Across his three seasons as head coach, Ateneo posted a combined 12–30 record. The team finished 5–9 in both Seasons 86 and 87 before its performance declined in Season 88.
Veloso coached players including Roma Mae Doromal, Lyann de Guzman, AC Miner, JLo Delos Santos, Dona de Leon, and Ana Hermoso during his tenure.
In a statement, Veloso said he was grateful for his time with Ateneo and for the relationships he built with players and staff. He also thanked the Philippine National Volleyball Federation.
Veloso said Philippine volleyball has strong potential and emphasized the importance of developing tactical understanding and execution to reach higher levels of competition.
