Lassana Diarra, former France international soccer player, is pursuing €65 million ($76 million) in damages from FIFA and the Belgian football federation, his legal team announced Monday.

The claim follows a significant legal victory related to transfer regulations. The case began after a dispute with Diarra’s former club, Lokomotiv Moscow, and involves a decade-long challenge to FIFA’s transfer rules.

The European Union’s top court issued a landmark ruling in favor of Diarra, prompting ongoing legal proceedings in Belgium. The damages claim stems from failed settlement negotiations with FIFA, with Diarra seeking €65 million gross (€35 million net).

FIFPRO, the global players’ union, supports Diarra’s case as it returns to court for further hearings.
