WASHINGTON — Singer Kehlani postponed two shows on her North American tour after a hospital visit left her unable to perform, she told fans Wednesday.

The 31-year-old singer said she went to the hospital after she became unable to swallow and experienced severe pain. She shared a photo from a hospital room in a social media post that she later deleted.

“After two off days feeling completely normal, I’ve been up all night unable to swallow & in so much pain,” Kehlani wrote. “I just left the hospital & am not cleared to sing for the next two shows. I’m so sorry.”

The hospitalization forced Kehlani to postpone scheduled performances in Camden, New Jersey, and Washington, D.C. Her team rescheduled the Camden concert for Sept. 5 and the Columbia, Maryland, show for Sept. 6.

Kehlani said her tour will resume in Virginia. She is scheduled to perform in Richmond on Saturday, Aug. 29.

“I do everything I’m supposed to ensure my health stays up to par & it still isn’t guaranteed,” she wrote.

Kehlani did not disclose the reason for her hospitalization.

The singer released her self-titled album in April and began the North American leg of her tour Aug. 6 in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

The tour is scheduled to conclude Oct. 4 in San Francisco, California.

MANILA, Philippines — Post Malone has postponed his Asia tour, including his scheduled Sept. 29 concert at the Philippine Arena in Bulacan, concert organizer Live Nation Philippines announced Thursday.

Live Nation Philippines said fans who purchased tickets for the Manila show will receive full refunds through their original payment method.

“We regret to announce that Post Malone Presents The BIG Stadium Tour in Manila scheduled for September 29, 2026 at the Philippine Arena has been postponed,” the organizer said in a statement.

The organizer did not immediately provide a reason for the postponement.

Post Malone also postponed his scheduled concerts in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, South Korea and Japan.

NEW YORK — Peter Cullen, the voice actor who gave Optimus Prime his distinctive baritone in the original “Transformers” animated series and voiced Eeyore in the “Winnie the Pooh” franchise, died Wednesday at his Los Angeles home. He was 85.

His agent, Kevin Motley, confirmed his death. Cullen’s family asked fans to honor his legacy through community service and compassion.

Cullen built a career spanning television series, specials, films and commercials before becoming best known as the voice of Optimus Prime, the leader of the Autobots.

Cullen first voiced the character in the syndicated “Transformers” series that debuted in 1984. The show ran for several years but helped establish a franchise that expanded into toys, comics, spinoff series and a live-action film series beginning in 2007.

Cullen said he drew inspiration for Optimus Prime from his older brother Larry, a U.S. Marine who served during the Vietnam War.

“He was my hero,” Cullen told The Associated Press in 2019. “I just did an impression of Larry.”

Cullen later reprised the role in the “Transformers” film franchise, including “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen,” “Dark of the Moon,” “Age of Extinction,” “The Last Knight,” “Bumblebee” and “Rise of the Beasts” in 2023.

Beyond Optimus Prime, Cullen voiced Eeyore in several “Winnie-the-Pooh” productions, including Disney’s “The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh” television series.

His other credits included KARR in the 1980s NBC series “Knight Rider” and King Kong in the 1976 film starring Jeff Bridges.

Cullen began his entertainment career as an announcer on “The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour” in the late 1960s. He later lent his voice to productions including “The Smurfs” and multiple “G.I. Joe” projects.

Cullen regularly attended fan conventions, where he met audiences who had grown up with his characters.

He is survived by his four children, Angus, Claire, Pilar and Clay.

U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz and Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick warned Texas Republicans Wednesday that complacency could cost them control of the state in the November 2026 elections, urging conservatives to mobilize against Democratic candidates.

AUSTIN — U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz and Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick warned Texas Republicans Wednesday that complacency could cost them control of the state in the November 2026 elections, urging conservatives to mobilize against Democratic candidates.

Cruz and Patrick issued the warning during a joint podcast as they discussed the political stakes of the upcoming election.

“We could lose Texas,” Cruz said, warning that Democrats could make gains if Republicans fail to turn out voters.

Patrick described the political environment as a “five-alarm fire” and said Republicans must work to keep control of Texas.

“Every Republican, every conservative, every non-nuts common-sense Texan needs to understand the crazies are coming out in force,” Cruz said.

The two Republicans criticized Democratic candidates over issues including taxes, school choice and transgender athletes in women’s sports. They also warned that a Democratic takeover of Texas could have consequences beyond state politics.

“If Democrats take Texas, you never elect a Republican to the White House ever again because of the electoral votes,” Patrick said.

Patrick, who is seeking another term as lieutenant governor, will face Democratic state Rep. Vikki Goodwin of Austin in November. Republican Gov. Greg Abbott will face Democratic nominee Gina Hinojosa.

Cruz is not up for reelection until 2030. Texas’ other U.S. Senate seat will be contested between Democratic U.S. Rep. James Talarico and Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton.

Cruz compared the current political environment in Texas with California before Democrats established lasting control of that state.

“I said, ‘I’m not talking about California. I’m describing my state of Texas in the 1970s,’” Cruz said.

The warnings come as Democrats seek to compete in Texas races that Republicans have traditionally dominated. Recent polling has shown Talarico holding a narrow lead over Paxton in the Senate race.

HOUSTON — The Federal Aviation Administration has imposed temporary flight restrictions over parts of Houston from Thursday through Friday as President Donald Trump visits the city, including a stop at NASA’s Johnson Space Center.

The FAA issued the restrictions for “VIP movement,” with the first restrictions taking effect at 4:30 p.m. Thursday and portions remaining in place until 2 p.m. Friday.

The restricted airspace covers roughly 30 nautical miles around designated locations, with tighter restrictions within 10 nautical miles. The restrictions extend from the ground to 17,999 feet, according to the FAA.

The rules prohibit several aviation activities during the restricted periods, including drone operations, flight training, sightseeing flights, banner towing, skydiving, glider operations and crop dusting.

Some scheduled passenger and cargo flights may continue if they meet the security requirements outlined in the FAA notice.

General aviation operations at William P. Hobby Airport, Ellington Airport and La Porte Municipal Airport will face restrictions from 4:30 to 5:45 p.m. Thursday and again from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, according to the National Business Aviation Association.

The restrictions coincide with Trump’s planned visit to Johnson Space Center, where he is scheduled to present the Congressional Space Medal of Honor to the four members of the Artemis II crew: NASA astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover and Christina Koch, and Canadian Space Agency astronaut Jeremy Hansen.

Trump’s Houston itinerary also includes a Republican National Committee fundraiser for Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, who is running for U.S. Senate against Democrat James Talarico, according to The New York Times. The fundraiser will be closed to the press.

The FAA restrictions will remain in effect according to the times specified in its temporary flight restriction notice.

Frisco-based golf content brand Good Good Golf lost several major business relationships this week after a controversial advertisement showed a man knocking a woman to the ground, prompting backlash over its portrayal of violence against women.

FRISCO, Texas — Frisco-based golf content brand Good Good Golf lost several major business relationships this week after a controversial advertisement showed a man knocking a woman to the ground, prompting backlash over its portrayal of violence against women.

Callaway Golf ended its partnership with Good Good on Thursday, two days after the company faced criticism over the 60-second advertisement. Callaway also announced a $1 million donation to organizations that work to prevent violence against women.

Callaway had reposted the advertisement on social media before removing it from its channels.

“Violence against women is unacceptable and should never be trivialized, normalized, or used as entertainment,” Callaway said in a statement.

The company said it would also review and strengthen its content approval processes.

The advertisement promoted a driver collaboration between Callaway and Good Good. The video featured Good Good founder Garrett Clark knocking former Indiana University golfer Alexis Miestowski to the ground after she tried to remove the driver from his golf bag.

Good Good said the advertisement intended to parody the movie “Obsession.”

Clark later apologized for his role in the advertisement and said Good Good’s marketing team also regretted how the video was received.

The controversy has triggered additional fallout for the Texas-based brand.

The PGA Tour ended Good Good’s role as title sponsor of a November tournament in Austin, according to reports from the Associated Press. The PGA Tour reportedly has alternative sponsors available for the event.

Dick’s Sporting Goods and its subsidiary Golf Galaxy also removed Good Good merchandise from their stores and withdrew sponsorship from the Golf Channel reality show “Big Break,” according to reports.

Golf Channel postponed the show’s premiere from its scheduled date to Sept. 1 after a sponsor requested that its branding be removed from the series.

Callaway and Good Good began their partnership in 2023 and later expanded it to include golf apparel and equipment. Their recent driver collaboration included the advertisement that triggered the backlash.

Good Good has not announced whether it will take additional action following the loss of its sponsorship and business partnerships.

An Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent accused of shooting a Venezuelan immigrant in northern Minneapolis was released from a South Texas jail Thursday after a judge rejected Minnesota officials’ efforts to extend his detention and compel Gov. Greg Abbott to approve his extradition.

MINNEAPOLIS — An Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent accused of shooting a Venezuelan immigrant in northern Minneapolis was released from a South Texas jail Thursday after a judge rejected Minnesota officials’ efforts to extend his detention and compel Gov. Greg Abbott to approve his extradition.

Cameron County Sheriff Manuel Trevino confirmed that Christian Castro left the jail shortly before 7 a.m. Thursday. The release came after Castro reached the maximum period Texas law allowed him to remain jailed while awaiting Abbott’s decision on Minnesota’s extradition request.

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz and state attorneys had asked the court to keep Castro jailed, arguing that he posed a high flight risk because of his proximity to Mexico. They also asked the court to compel Abbott to sign the extradition warrant, arguing that his failure to act after more than two months effectively amounted to a refusal.

Judge Fernando Rodriguez Jr. rejected both requests Wednesday, clearing the way for Castro’s release.

Abbott spokesman Andrew Mahaleris defended the ruling and said the Texas governor has constitutional authority to evaluate extradition requests.

Castro allegedly shot Julio Sosa-Celis through the door of his Minneapolis home in January while deployed to the city as part of ICE’s Operation Metro Surge. Castro initially said Sosa-Celis attacked him, but surveillance footage contradicted that account, according to authorities.

Hennepin County prosecutors later charged Castro with four counts of assault and one count of falsely reporting a crime. Castro had already left Minnesota, prompting a county judge to issue a nationwide arrest warrant.

Authorities arrested Castro in May in a Texas county along the U.S.-Mexico border.

Castro did not have an attorney representing him in the Texas extradition proceedings and has not made a public statement about the case.

Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison criticized Castro’s release and urged him to surrender to authorities in Minnesota.

“Christian Castro is a fugitive from justice who still must answer for his crimes in Minnesota,” Ellison said. “He should turn himself today in to face them.”

Ellison said Minnesota would continue pursuing its lawsuit against Abbott to compel him to act on the extradition request.

Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty also criticized Abbott after Wednesday’s ruling, questioning why the governor would use the extradition process to prevent Castro from facing charges in Minnesota.

The case remains subject to Minnesota’s effort to secure Castro’s extradition and bring him back to face the charges.

MANILA, Philippines — Venus Williams drew fellow American Sofia Kenin in the first round of the U.S. Open on Thursday, creating a potential Williams sisters matchup that could have happened had Serena Williams chosen to compete in singles.

The 46-year-old Venus received a wild card into the singles draw, while the U.S. Tennis Association initially reserved another spot for Serena after the six-time U.S. Open champion returned to tennis for the first time since 2022.

Serena, 44, ultimately decided to play only doubles, prompting the USTA to award the remaining wild card to Kenin, the 2020 Australian Open champion.

The draw then paired Venus and Kenin in the opening round. Main draw action begins Sunday.

Venus and Kenin will play on the same side of the draw as No. 3 seed Jessica Pegula. The winner will face Pegula, who opens against Elena-Gabriela Ruse, in the second round.

Two-time defending champion Aryna Sabalenka, the top seed, will begin against Camila Osorio. She could meet No. 6 seed and Wimbledon champion Linda Noskova in the quarterfinals.

The other projected women’s quarterfinal matchups are No. 2 Elena Rybakina against No. 8 Iga Swiatek, Pegula against No. 7 Karolina Muchova, and No. 4 Coco Gauff against No. 5 Mirra Andreeva, the French Open champion.

Some first-round matchups remained unsettled Thursday as qualifying continued. No. 11 Marta Kostyuk and No. 17 Alex Eala were among the players waiting for their opponents.

NEW YORK — Carlos Alcaraz will begin his U.S. Open title defense against Roman Safiullin on Sunday in his first Grand Slam singles match since April, after a right wrist injury kept him out of the French Open and Wimbledon.

Alcaraz enters the final Grand Slam tournament of the season as the No. 2 seed and faces a Safiullin who reached the fourth round at Wimbledon.

Safiullin upset Andrey Rublev and Joao Fonseca at the All England Club before Novak Djokovic eliminated him in four sets.

Alcaraz returned to competition in the U.S. Open mixed doubles tournament, where he partnered with Serena Williams. He showed signs of rust during the event.

Alcaraz and Safiullin have split their two previous meetings. Safiullin defeated Alcaraz at the 2023 Paris Masters, while Alcaraz won their rematch at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Main draw action at the U.S. Open begins Sunday.

Zverev takes top seed

Alexander Zverev will enter the tournament as the No. 1 seed after Jannik Sinner withdrew because of a knee injury.

Zverev, the French Open champion, will open against Italy’s Lorenzo Sonego.

The projected men’s quarterfinal matchups include Zverev against No. 6 Alex de Minaur, Alcaraz against No. 8 Ben Shelton, No. 3 Felix Auger-Aliassime against No. 5 Flavio Cobolli, and No. 4 Djokovic against No. 7 Daniil Medvedev.

Other first-round matches

No. 10 seed Arthur Fils will face former No. 3 Stefanos Tsitsipas in the first round after winning the Cincinnati Open.

Stan Wawrinka, the 2016 U.S. Open champion, will play Matteo Berrettini in what will be Wawrinka’s final Grand Slam appearance before retirement. Berrettini, the 2021 Wimbledon runner-up, defeated Wawrinka in four sets at the All England Club, with each set ending in a tiebreaker.

No. 23 seed Rublev will face 2014 U.S. Open champion Marin Cilic.

No. 13 Lorenzo Musetti, who reached the quarterfinals in New York last year, will open against Britain’s Arthur Fery, who reached the Wimbledon semifinals before Zverev eliminated him.
