SAN ANTONIO, Texas — A 17-year-old male, identified as Hector Javier Vargas, died following a shooting at a graduation party on the city’s south side, according to the San Antonio Police Department.

The incident occurred late at night during a gathering that was reportedly attended by a number of young people. Police said Vargas was shot during the event and later died from his injuries. No arrests have been made as of this writing.

According to family members, Vargas was an aspiring barber who had plans to pursue further education in cosmetology. A fundraiser has been launched to help cover funeral expenses, and donations have been received from members of the community.

The San Antonio Police Department continues to investigate the shooting and is urging anyone with information to come forward. Detectives are interviewing witnesses and reviewing evidence to determine the circumstances that led to the incident.

Authorities noted that many attendees fled the scene when the shooting began, which has complicated efforts to gather firsthand accounts. No motive has been confirmed, and police have not released information about any suspects.

Community members and local officials have expressed concern about gun violence and safety at public events. Discussions are ongoing regarding preventive measures.

Anyone with information related to the shooting is asked to contact the San Antonio Police Department at (210) 207-7273.2
