Eugene Torre remains the timeless face of Philippine chess

MANILA, Philippines—Eugene Torre, who has significantly influenced chess in the Philippines and internationally, has been appointed head coach of the Philippine Men’s Chess Team.

Torre, the first Asian Grandmaster, announced his new role during the shoot for Look Through, Inquirer’s documentary series.

As part of his responsibilities, Torre will focus on nurturing and developing new chess talents who could potentially follow in his footsteps.

He also mentioned that the National Chess Federation of the Philippines is organizing numerous tournaments to bolster the country’s chess scene.
