FORT WORTH, Texas — A six-alarm fire at The Cooper apartment complex on Monday afternoon displaced 834 residents and required a large-scale emergency response, officials said.
The Fort Worth Fire Department reported that the fire began while a maintenance contractor was conducting repairs on HVAC wiring.
Investigators are examining the possibility that an electrical issue triggered the blaze, though the cause remains under investigation.
One person was hospitalized, and six others were treated at the scene for heat-related symptoms, according to fire officials.
In response to the displacement, the American Red Cross established a temporary shelter and began providing emergency supplies to affected residents. Authorities have granted residents limited access to an undamaged section of the complex to retrieve essential belongings.
City officials and local organizations are coordinating ongoing relief efforts to assist displaced individuals. The Fort Worth Fire Department continues to lead the investigation into the fire’s origin.
