CAIRO — Filipino gymnast Eldrew Yulo advanced to the floor exercise finals at the FIG World Cup in Cairo on Friday after placing fifth in the qualification round with a score of 13.900.
Yulo recorded 5.400 in difficulty and 8.500 in execution to secure a finals berth, marking his third consecutive floor exercise finals appearance since moving up to the senior level.
Russia’s Arsenii Dukhno led the qualifiers with 14.533 points, followed by Colombia’s Camilo Vera with 14.133 and Russia’s Daniel Marinov with 14.000.
Fellow Filipino John Ivan Cruz placed 21st out of 30 competitors in the same event with 12.200 points.
In other apparatus, Miguel Besana finished 23rd out of 27 athletes in the pommel horse qualification with 10.666 points. Armenia’s Mamikon Khachatryan topped the standings with 14.766, while Kazakhstan’s Zeinolla Idrissov and Nariman Kurbanov both scored 14.566.
In the still rings, Justine Ace De Leon placed 13th out of 14 competitors with 11.733 points. Armenia’s Artur Avetisyan led with 14.233, followed by Greece’s Eleftherios Petrounias at 14.100 and China’s Liu Yang with 14.000.
Yulo, Cruz, and Besana will return on Saturday for additional qualification rounds. Yulo is set to compete in vault, parallel bars, and horizontal bar, while Besana will compete in parallel bars and horizontal bar, and Cruz will participate in the vault event.
