EJ Obiena hails Mondo Duplantis’ newest world record feat

Manila, Philippines — Filipino pole vaulter EJ Obiena commended Mondo Duplantis for setting a new world record in pole vaulting on September 15, 2025, during the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo.

Duplantis cleared a height of 6.30 meters during the competition. Obiena shared his reaction at the Atletang Ayala World Pole Vault event in Manila, where he plans to bring a pole vaulting showcase to Filipino spectators.

Obiena acknowledged Duplantis’s performance and recognized his status as a world and Olympic champion. Officials recorded the new mark during the event, which drew participants and observers from the athletics community.

Obiena said he remains focused on preparing for future competitions and on promoting the sport in the Philippines.
