EJ Obiena of the Philippines won the men’s pole vault event at the Southeast Asian Games in Bangkok, Thailand on Tuesday, securing his fourth consecutive SEA Games gold medal at Supachalasai Stadium.
Obiena cleared 5.70 meters, matching the mark of Thailand’s Amsamang Patsapong, with both athletes setting a new SEA Games record.
Officials applied the countback rule after the two vaulters finished with the same best height. Competition results showed Obiena recorded fewer failed attempts at earlier heights, earning him the gold medal, while Patsapong settled for silver.
SEA Games organizers confirmed the 5.70-meter clearance as the new men’s pole vault record for the regional competition.
The event took place under clear conditions, with home fans supporting Patsapong during the final attempts.
