MANILA, Philippines — Protesters gathered at Edsa in Manila, demanding the impeachment of Vice President Sara Duterte.

The groups expressed frustration over what they perceive as government inaction, blaming both the House of Representatives and President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. for delays in the impeachment process.

The demonstrators hold Vice President Duterte responsible for alleged constitutional violations and urge the government to expedite the proceedings.

Akbayan Representative Perci Cendana, a vocal supporter of the impeachment effort, raised concerns about Duterte’s alleged breach of constitutional duties.

Cendana’s involvement highlights growing political tensions within the national government. He called for swift action to address the grievances raised by the protestors.

The rally took place on the historic Edsa, where participants carried placards and banners demanding immediate action.

The protest attracted civil society leaders, student activists, and ordinary citizens, all voicing dissatisfaction with the current state of governance.

Many protesters argued that the delay in addressing the impeachment demonstrates broader issues within the political system.

The demonstrators called for transparency and accountability from Vice President Duterte. They urged lawmakers to take their concerns seriously and stressed the importance of adhering to constitutional principles. The protesters also demanded that President Marcos and the House of Representatives fulfill their responsibilities in overseeing the impeachment process.

The impeachment call centers on accusations that Vice President Duterte violated specific constitutional provisions.

Critics argue that the government has not addressed these allegations promptly, fueling public frustration.

The protesters contend that impeachment is necessary to preserve the rule of law and restore public trust in democratic institutions.

Officials from the House of Representatives stated they are carefully reviewing the impeachment charges and assured the public that the process will proceed fairly and transparently.

President Marcos has yet to release an official statement regarding the impeachment proceedings or the protests.
