Early voting for the special election runoff in Texas’ 18th Congressional District will start on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, in Harris County, where voters will choose between Democrats Christian Menefee and Amanda Edwards to fill the vacant U.S. House seat.

Election officials will open early voting locations across the district from January 21 through Monday, January 27, 2025, under the schedule set by the Harris County Elections Administrator’s Office.

Voters will cast ballots in a runoff that features Christian Menefee, the former Harris County Attorney, and Amanda Edwards, a former Houston City Council member, after both candidates advanced from the earlier special election.

The runoff election will determine who will represent Texas’ 18th Congressional District in Congress for the remainder of the current term following the vacancy that triggered the special election process.

Registered voters who reside within the boundaries of Texas’ 18th Congressional District may participate in the runoff and may vote at any authorized early voting location in the county, subject to county-specific voting center rules.

The Harris County Elections Administrator’s Office will post information about polling locations, hours of operation, and sample ballots on its official website and through public notices before the start of early voting.

Election Day for the special election runoff will take place on Saturday, January 31, 2025, when polling places will open in the morning and close in the evening in accordance with Texas Election Code requirements.

Officials will follow established procedures for recounts or election contests if the final certified margin of votes meets statutory thresholds or if a candidate files a challenge under Texas law.
