MANILA, Philippines– Former President Rodrigo Duterte celebrated his 80th birthday on Friday inside an International Criminal Court (ICC) detention cell in The Hague, Netherlands.

Duterte typically marked his birthdays quietly with his family in Davao City. This year, his birthday celebration occurred in solitary confinement due to his detention by the ICC.

Duterte’s supporters organized rallies and prayers advocating for his return to the Philippines.

The ICC detained Duterte as part of ongoing investigations into his administration’s anti-drug campaign.

The former president has denied all accusations related to the ICC investigation.
