MANILA, Philippines– President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has appointed Maj. Gen. Nicolas Torre III as the new Chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), outgoing PNP Chief Gen. Rommel Marbil confirmed on Friday.
Speaking during a press interview at Camp Crame, Gen. Marbil emphasized that Torre’s appointment was based on his leadership qualifications and capacity to manage the national police force.
In response to questions regarding Torre’s past involvement in the arrest of former President Rodrigo Duterte, Marbil clarified that the appointment was not linked to any previous actions. He stated that the selection process prioritized leadership and the ability to oversee the organization effectively.
“The President’s decision to appoint Maj. Gen. Torre is grounded in his leadership qualities and not any past events,” Marbil said.
Gen. Marbil affirmed that Torre is well-prepared to lead the PNP, describing the incoming chief as capable of managing the organization’s demands.

Torre succeeds Marbil as PNP Chief at a time when the agency continues to address high-profile cases, community policing efforts, and internal reforms.
