The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) arrested a Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) engineer in Oriental Mindoro, on a court-issued warrant linked to an allegedly irregular flood control project.
The NBI identified the suspect as one of 18 individuals wanted on warrants issued by a regional trial court. Agents located the engineer at an address listed in the court records and served the warrant.
The engineer faces charges connected to the flood control project, which investigators linked to possible violations of anti-graft and corruption laws. The NBI said the case stemmed from a project involving the construction or improvement of flood control structures funded under public infrastructure programs.
NBI agents coordinated with local police and court personnel before the operation. They brought the engineer to the NBI office for booking and processing.
The NBI said it will turn the suspect over to the issuing court for further proceedings, including arraignment and pre-trial. Prosecutors filed charges against the 18 suspects after conducting a fact-finding and preliminary investigation.
The NBI said it gathered project documents, records, and witness statements to support the charges. Investigators said the inquiry covers the planning, procurement, and implementation of the Oriental Mindoro flood control project.
The agency said it will submit additional reports to prosecutors as more information becomes available. The DPWH will handle administrative matters related to the employment status of the arrested engineer under civil service rules.
The investigation remains ongoing.
