The Houston Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) rescued 34 malnourished farm animals from a property in Crosby, Texas, following reports of severe neglect, officials confirmed this week.

Houston SPCA’s Animal Cruelty Investigators, in partnership with deputies from Harris County Precinct 1 Constable Alan Rosen’s Office, conducted the operation after discovering animals living in unsanitary enclosures.

According to the SPCA, the animals were found standing in a three-inch-deep mixture of mud, feces, and urine.

The rescue included two donkeys, two horses, 11 goats, one dog, and multiple birds. Veterinarians on-site provided immediate medical attention, beginning treatment and assessments to stabilize the animals’ health.

“These animals were exposed to extremely hazardous conditions that posed serious threats to their well-being,” the Houston SPCA said in a statement. “They are now receiving the care they urgently need.”

Authorities are investigating the circumstances that led to the neglect. Legal action may follow against those responsible, depending on the outcome of the ongoing investigation.

The SPCA is encouraging the public to report suspected animal cruelty. “Community involvement is critical in protecting vulnerable animals,” the organization stated.

The Houston SPCA has asked for community support through donations and volunteering to sustain its rescue and rehabilitation efforts.

The animals are currently recovering under the care of the SPCA, which will oversee their rehabilitation and determine appropriate placements once they are healthy.
