HOUSTON, Texas– A group of approximately 100 students from the Houston Independent School District (HISD) participated in a walkout on Friday to protest President Donald Trump’s immigration policies.

The demonstration, part of a growing trend of student activism nationwide, focused on concerns about the administration’s approach to immigration reform and enforcement.

The protest mirrored similar actions by young people in other U.S. cities, as students increasingly take part in political demonstrations addressing issues such as climate change, gun control, and social justice.

HISD acknowledged that the protest was “overwhelmingly peaceful,” but noted that some students engaged in disruptive behavior, prompting the district to take disciplinary action.

Dozens of students were suspended following the walkout for violating HISD’s code of conduct, which outlines guidelines for student behavior.

While the district expressed respect for students’ rights to protest peacefully, it emphasized the importance of maintaining an environment conducive to learning. HISD stated that the students who were disciplined did not adhere to the school’s established norms.

In response to the walkout, HISD officials have emphasized the importance of educating students about civic engagement and the impact of public policy.

The district is reportedly working with educators to create constructive platforms for students to express their opinions in the future.
