SAN ANTONIO — The City of San Antonio will move its free downtown parking program from Tuesdays to Thursdays beginning next week as part of a new summer initiative called Downtown Thursdays.
The temporary change will allow visitors to park for free at city garages and lots from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Thursdays instead of Tuesdays. The city said the adjustment will support a new schedule of arts, music and food events planned across downtown during the summer. The free parking program will return to Tuesdays on Sept. 2.
The city will launch Downtown Thursdays with a block party on June 4 at Legacy Park. The free event will run from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and will include live music, activities and giveaways.
The Local SATX will provide free short-distance transportation to Downtown Thursdays events through a partnership with the city.
The city said Downtown Thursdays will feature live entertainment, food and drink specials, outdoor programming, cultural events and activities hosted by community partners throughout downtown.
The City of San Antonio is partnering with Centro San Antonio, Hemisfair, Main Plaza, Fairmount Hotel and Majestic Theatre, along with other downtown businesses and organizations, for the program.
