The U.S. Department of Justice is requesting additional resources for Minnesota as federal authorities expand a fraud investigation in the state.

The department is seeking military attorneys and federal auditors to support the growing probe into suspected misuse of public funds.

Officials say the request aims to increase staff for case review, document analysis, and preparation for potential prosecutions. Investigators are examining whether individuals or organizations diverted federally connected funds from their intended public use. The scale of the suspected fraud has created a backlog of financial records, contracts, and electronic data.

The Justice Department is coordinating with multiple federal agencies to provide legal and financial specialists. Military attorneys with experience in administrative law and government compliance, and auditors skilled in tracing funds and reconciling accounts, will assist in analyzing evidence and ensuring accurate financial review.

Federal agents in Minnesota are working with state authorities and local law enforcement to track financial flows, review grants and contracts, and interview witnesses. Prosecutors are preparing for potential indictments as the investigation continues.

The Minnesota investigation remains active, with authorities focused on ensuring that federal funds were not misused and that any violations of fraud, conspiracy, or money laundering statutes are addressed.
