AUSTIN, Texas– The Department of Justice is investigating the city of Austin, Texas, for potentially engaging in racially discriminatory employment practices.

The inquiry began when the DOJ’s Civil Rights Division launched the investigation under the leadership of Assistant Attorney General Harmeet K. Dhillon.

The Justice Department aims to determine if Austin’s employment practices violate Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which prohibits employment discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, or national origin.

The investigation focuses on whether the city’s Office of Equity and Inclusion’s policies promote racial equity in hiring and related employment practices.

The DOJ’s actions highlight their commitment to ensuring equal employment opportunities as required by federal law.
