MANILA, Philippines– The Department of Health (DOH) reported a decline in flu-like illnesses this year compared to previous seasons, noting that current cases remain lower than expected.

In a statement released Monday, officials cautioned that while the numbers are down, a possible uptick could occur as the flu season begins. The DOH urged the public to continue practicing preventive measures to sustain the downward trend.

Health authorities emphasized vaccination as the most effective protection against influenza. The DOH attributed the reduction in cases to improved public health strategies, increased vaccination coverage, and heightened public awareness.

The agency reminded individuals—especially those at higher risk such as children, the elderly, and people with chronic illnesses—to get vaccinated as soon as possible. Flu vaccines, officials said, are available at health centers nationwide.

The DOH also underscored the importance of maintaining good hygiene habits, including regular handwashing, wearing masks in crowded areas, and observing physical distancing. These practices, they noted, help prevent both flu and other respiratory infections.

Health experts encouraged the public to seek medical attention at the first sign of flu symptoms to ensure timely treatment and reduce complications. The DOH confirmed that surveillance systems are in place to closely monitor flu activity across the country.

Officials reaffirmed the department’s preparedness to respond should cases increase in the coming months. The DOH expressed confidence that ongoing prevention efforts and public cooperation will help control the spread of flu-like illnesses throughout the season.
