The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) is verifying reports that three Filipino seafarers aboard the MV Eternity C were killed by Houthi rebels on Saturday, July 8, 2025, while sailing in the Red Sea near Yemen.
DMW Undersecretary Bernard Olalia announced the ongoing verification process of these reports during a news forum in Quezon City.
The MV Eternity C, a Liberian-flagged bulk carrier, had 22 crew members, primarily Filipinos, at the time of the attack. Following the incident, five crew members were rescued, and efforts are ongoing to determine the fate of the remaining crew.
The DMW confirmed the sinking of the vessel and stressed the dangers of deploying Filipino seafarers to high-risk areas like the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.
This warning follows increasing maritime incidents involving Houthi rebels, including the recent attack on MV Magic Seas.
The DMW is actively providing assistance to the families of the deceased seafarers. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation for further developments concerning the crew members who remain unaccounted for.
