1,454 Filipinos freed from scam hubs in 2 years, DMW data show

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) reported on Oct. 27, that authorities have rescued 1,454 Filipinos from scam hubs across Southeast Asia over the past two years, including about 200 trafficking victims recently recovered from an illegal operation in Myanmar who are now seeking repatriation.

According to the DMW, the rescues include 376 Filipinos from Cambodia, 399 from Laos, and 764 from Myanmar. Authorities are coordinating the repatriation of all rescued individuals.

The DMW expressed gratitude to Myanmar and Thai authorities for their assistance in the operations that led to the recovery of Filipino victims.
