MANILA, Philippines– The Department of Education (DepEd) in the Philippines is considering the lease of closed private school buildings and underutilized properties to address the ongoing classroom shortage in the country.
During a Classroom Market Scoping Activity, officials discussed this initiative as a method to alleviate the deficit, which reached over 165,000 classrooms in 2022.
The strategy aims to create a scalable and cost-effective solution for leasing classrooms. DepEd has identified properties such as the Pita Property in Laguna, formerly the Rainbow Institute of Learning, as prospects for immediate repurposing.
This initiative intends to complement existing infrastructure programs, with insights from the activity expected to be presented at an upcoming Classroom Summit.
