Senator Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa on Wednesday addressed concerns raised by the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) regarding the pace of impeachment proceedings against Vice President Sara Duterte, assuring the public that the process remains within legal bounds.

The CBCP earlier expressed apprehension about what it described as a delay in the trial, warning that prolonged proceedings could affect public trust.

“The process is following the necessary legal protocols,” Dela Rosa said in a media briefing. “Any delay is not a sign of negligence or an attempt to prolong the case.”

He emphasized that both the Senate and the parties involved are committed to ensuring a fair and transparent process. The trial, initiated over unspecified allegations, is currently undergoing procedural review.

Vice President Duterte, through her spokesperson, expressed confidence in the judicial process and reiterated her commitment to cooperating with legal proceedings.

While the Senate has yet to announce specific dates for the continuation of the trial, officials confirmed that hearings will resume soon. Legal teams on both sides are currently preparing their arguments.
