DALLAS, Texas–The Dallas Fire Fighters Association (DFFA) has thrown its support behind interim fire chief Justin Ball for the role of permanent fire chief.

DFFA President Jeff Patterson highlighted Ball’s extensive experience and leadership capabilities as primary reasons for their endorsement. Ball has been serving as the interim chief for Dallas Fire-Rescue since June 2024.  His tenure began when the previous chief, Dominique Artis, moved to another position.

Ball first began his fire service career in 1997 with the Dallas Fire Department. His long-standing service and commitment to the department have been recognized by association members who feel he is best suited to lead.

City Manager Kim Tolbert is set to make her decision on the permanent fire chief later this week.

Alongside Ball, other candidates in consideration for the position include Todd Alt, an assistant chief with Tampa Fire Rescue in Florida, Raymond Hill, and Samuel Peña.
