Dallas County has appointed a new director for its Juvenile Services Department following an investigation into allegations of mistreatment and poor living conditions at the local juvenile detention facility.

H. Lynn Hadnot will begin his role as Dallas County’s new director of juvenile services in early 2025.

Mike Griffiths, who previously led the department for 15 years before retiring in 2010, has been serving as interim director.

The investigation began after reports surfaced, alleging mistreatment of minors and substandard conditions at the Dallas County Juvenile Detention Center.

The former director resigned during the summer, leaving the position vacant at a critical time.

The investigation intensified after multiple reports raised concerns about the facility’s operations.

The allegations led to public demands for changes in how the department is managed.

County officials have faced increasing pressure to ensure the safety and well-being of minors in custody. The resignation of the former director highlighted the need for strong leadership to address these issues.

The newly appointed director brings extensive experience in juvenile services.

County officials selected the director after a thorough selection process, believing their expertise will be crucial in leading reforms at the facility.

Officials are optimistic that the new leadership will help improve conditions and address the current challenges facing the department.

The Dallas County Juvenile Detention Center has faced criticism for operational shortcomings, including poor living conditions and mistreatment of detained youth.

Advocacy groups and community leaders have urged the county to take immediate action. County officials have promised transparency and committed to providing regular updates on the progress of reforms.

The new director will collaborate with various stakeholders to create an action plan aimed at improving conditions for detained juveniles.

The plan will focus on new policies, staff training, and infrastructure improvements. The director’s leadership will be pivotal in restoring trust in the Juvenile Services Department.

With the new director in place, Dallas County is moving forward with plans to address the longstanding issues at its juvenile detention center.

The reforms are expected to improve conditions and ensure the humane treatment of all minors in custody, shaping the future of juvenile detention in the county.
