DALLAS — The Dallas City Council has sent the proposed funding agreement for the Dallas Wings new practice facility back to committee after concerns over escalating costs, missed deadlines, and unclear project updates.
City staff originally estimated the facility would cost $54 million and open in spring 2026. That figure has now jumped to $81 million due to updated WNBA requirements and other unforeseen issues. The council held off on approving a $58 million grant to the team, citing the need for more clarity on setbacks.
Councilman Chad West said the delays and cost increases were partly due to changes in the Wings’ requests and missed contractor deadlines, naming McKissack as responsible for some setbacks.
Other council members stressed that, regardless of the source of missteps, city leaders will face public accountability for the project’s problems. The decision marks a pause in the push to advance the long-planned facility, which has drawn attention for its rising price and timeline shifts.
