Dallas Contemporary enlists Nasher figures to develop strategic roadmap

DALLAS — Dallas Contemporary has tapped two longtime leaders from the Nasher Sculpture Center to guide the institution through a multi-year planning period ahead of its 50th anniversary.

John McBride, currently deputy director of finance and operations at the Nasher, will join Dallas Contemporary as interim executive director and chief operating officer beginning June 15. Former Nasher director Jeremy Strick will also join the organization as a strategic advisor.

Rod Sager, co-president of Dallas Contemporary’s board, said the museum opted to slow its search for a permanent executive director while the broader museum sector undergoes leadership changes nationwide.

Sager described the interim arrangement as mutual and said it could potentially evolve into a permanent role.

McBride said he was honored to join the institution at a time when contemporary artists’ voices remain especially important. During his 18 years at the Nasher, he helped oversee long-term financial planning, operational strategy, budgeting, and auditing. He also guided the museum through the leadership transition following Strick’s retirement and the hiring of Carlos Basualdo.

Before leaving the Nasher in 2024, Strick expanded fundraising efforts, nearly doubled the museum’s permanent collection, and launched the Nasher Art Prize, an international award recognizing contemporary sculptors.

At Dallas Contemporary, Strick will focus on board development, donor cultivation, and curatorial planning.

McBride succeeds Lucia Simek, who joined the museum in 2022, later became interim director, and was appointed executive director in 2025 before announcing plans to return to her art practice.
