Dallas Animal Services announced that it is offering free adoptions throughout December as its facility has reached 133% capacity for housing dogs.

Lauren Loney, the shelter’s director, highlighted the need for public involvement.

“We are calling on the community to open their homes to these wonderful animals,” Loney stated. She added that adopting or fostering a pet can significantly impact the lives of these animals, providing them with a loving home during the holiday season.

In response to the overcrowding, Dallas Animal Services launched a campaign to encourage adoptions by waiving all fees for the month of December.

Potential adopters are encouraged to visit the shelter and meet the animals in need of homes. Each dog available for adoption has been vaccinated, spayed or neutered, and microchipped. The shelter’s team is available to assist with the adoption process and provide information about each animal’s needs and personality.

In addition to adoption, the shelter is seeking volunteers to help care for the animals and assist with daily operations. Volunteer roles include walking dogs, cleaning kennels, and providing general care and companionship. Individuals interested in volunteering are encouraged to contact the shelter for more information on how to get involved.

Community members have also been asked to consider donating to help the shelter manage its current load. Monetary contributions can assist with the costs of food, medical care, and other necessities for the dogs. Donations of goods such as blankets, toys, and cleaning supplies are also welcome.

Dallas Animal Services has a longstanding commitment to promoting animal welfare and finding permanent homes for pets. The current overcapacity situation underscores the ongoing need for community support to meet this mission. The shelter remains hopeful that the free adoption campaign will inspire many people to add a new member to their families this December.
