Hugo Hernandez-Mendez, who faces charges in the murder of Dacara Thompson, is set to appear in court on Monday for a bond hearing in Austin, Texas. Authorities reported Thompson, aged 19, missing on August 23, 2023. Nearly two weeks later, investigators discovered her body in Anne Arundel County.

Law enforcement confirmed Hernandez-Mendez is in the United States illegally. Officials arrested him following investigations linking him to Thompson’s death. The case involves multiple jurisdictions, as Thompson disappeared in Texas but her body was found in Maryland.

Prosecutors charged Hernandez-Mendez with murder following the discovery of Thompson’s remains. Authorities have not yet disclosed the details behind the motive or circumstances of the murder. The upcoming court appearance will address the matter of bond, determining whether Hernandez-Mendez will remain in custody as the legal process continues.

The case has drawn attention due to its cross-state nature and the fact that Hernandez-Mendez is undocumented. Further investigation continues as officials seek additional information surrounding the events leading to Thompson’s death. The court hearing on Monday will provide updates on the legal proceedings and potential next steps.
