SAN ANTONIO — A proposal to reduce speed limits on more streets in San Antonio is set for discussion Tuesday at the City Council’s Transportation and Infrastructure Committee.

Currently, the city’s default speed limit is 30 mph. District 7 Councilwoman Marina Alderete Gavito is proposing lowering the limit to 25 mph on neighborhood streets within a quarter-mile of schools, parks, and community centers. Gavito said the measure aims to improve safety for children, families, and pedestrians.

If the proposal is approved, the city would need to install new signage, identify priority streets, conduct traffic studies, and notify residents before implementing the changes.

The committee is scheduled to meet at 2 p.m. Tuesday to discuss the proposal.
