MANILA, Philippines– A police officer in the Philippines, injured during an altercation with Honeylet Avanceña, the common-law partner of former President Rodrigo Duterte, will be receiving a commendation from the Philippine National Police (PNP).

The officer sustained a forehead injury after being struck by Avanceña’s cell phone during the incident. Despite the injury, the officer has chosen not to pursue legal action.

The officer’s decision to forgo legal proceedings has sparked varying reactions from both the public and the police community.

Avanceña, who has not commented publicly on the incident, has remained silent regarding the altercation and the officer’s choice not to press charges.

The PNP has stated that an ongoing investigation will continue, while the officer’s recognition serves as an acknowledgment of her dedication to her duties.
