LAS VEGAS — The Ultimate Fighting Championship announced on Saturday that Conor McGregor will return to competition against Max Holloway in a non-title lightweight rematch on July 11 in Las Vegas, marking McGregor’s first fight in five years.

UFC said McGregor will compete at UFC 329. McGregor last fought on July 10, 2021, when he suffered a broken leg in a loss to Dustin Poirier.

McGregor previously held championships in two UFC weight divisions. He remains one of the promotion’s most recognized fighters.

The July bout will revisit McGregor’s second UFC fight. McGregor defeated Holloway in August 2013 in Boston despite competing with a torn knee ligament.

McGregor withdrew from a scheduled return fight in June 2024 after he sustained a toe injury.

Outside the Octagon, McGregor faced multiple legal and disciplinary issues. In 2024, a civil court in Ireland found him liable and ordered him to pay about $250,000 in damages in a case involving allegations of rape. McGregor also faced a civil lawsuit in the United States related to allegations of sexual assault at an NBA game, which the plaintiff later dropped after authorities declined to pursue criminal charges.

Combat sports officials suspended McGregor for 18 months in December after he missed three drug tests within a 12-month period. The sanction followed an investigation that considered his cooperation.

UFC announced the fight during a promotional event hosted by Most Valuable Promotions in Los Angeles.
