MANILA, Philippines– The Commission on Elections (Comelec) will issue a show-cause order next week to Sen. Rodante Marcoleta, a candidate in the 2025 midterm elections, requiring him to explain inconsistencies in his declared campaign expenditures.

Comelec officials said the order will formally notify Marcoleta of discrepancies between his reported total spending and the figures in his submitted statement of contributions and expenditures. The document will give him a set period to provide a written explanation.

The poll body will review Marcoleta’s response to determine whether he complied with campaign finance rules under Philippine election law. If the explanation is insufficient, Comelec may pursue further action, including administrative measures or referral to other agencies as allowed under existing regulations.
