The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Friday announced in Manila that it will begin early preparations for the 2028 national and local elections to ensure the smooth conduct of the polls.

Comelec spokesperson John Rex Laudiangco said the poll body will use as guide for the 2028 electoral calendar the timeline that it adopted and implemented for the 2025 elections.

Laudiangco said Comelec will review the 2025 election timetable, including periods for voter registration, filing of certificates of candidacy, campaign activities, and procurement and testing of election equipment, to determine which measures it will replicate or adjust for 2028.

He said the commission will coordinate with concerned government agencies and stakeholders as it plans and schedules activities leading to the 2028 polls.

Laudiangco said Comelec will issue additional details on its 2028 preparations after it completes its assessment of the 2025 election processes and timelines.
