The Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex is set to experience significant economic growth following Collins Aerospace’s announcement of its expansion plans, which include the creation of over 570 new jobs. Governor Greg Abbott revealed that Collins Aerospace, a company specializing in products for commercial aviation, military, and space exploration, will invest $57 million to enhance its manufacturing and research-and-development operations in Richardson, Collin County. This expansion is bolstered by a $3.718 million Texas Enterprise Fund grant, emphasizing Texas’ leading role in attracting aerospace manufacturing industries.

Collins Aerospace, a subsidiary of the defense contractor RTX, which also owns Pratt & Whitney and Raytheon, employs over 80,000 people globally and reported sales of $28.3 billion in 2024. The company’s expansion is a testament to the growing tech ecosystem in North Texas, highlighted by the arrival of firms such as Cognigy, E2open, and Simplilearn. This influx has spurred notable regional development, including new residential areas, resort hotels, and airport expansions, contributing to the area’s economic dynamism.

Philippe Limondin, Vice President and General Manager for Strategic Solutions at Collins Aerospace, praised the support from Texas and the City of Richardson, stating it was crucial to the company’s decision to grow its footprint. An economic impact report by Prestige Economics, commissioned by the Texas Association of Businesses, projects that Collin County’s real GDP could surpass several U.S. states by 2050, underscoring the significant economic impact of such expansions in the region.
