AUSTIN, Texas– The City of Leander has launched its first microchip scanning station, providing residents with a free and efficient tool to help reunite lost pets with their owners, officials announced this week.
The station, located at a designated site in Leander, allows individuals who find stray animals to scan for a microchip and access information to identify and contact the pet’s owner.
City officials said the scanning station addresses a growing number of lost pet reports in the community. By reducing the time it takes to locate an owner, the city hopes to improve the chances of safely returning animals to their homes.
Operating hours for the station will be announced soon. In the meantime, city staff continue to encourage pet owners to microchip their animals as a proactive step in case pets go missing.
